Rosa Louise McCauley Parks was born to Leona and James McCauley on February 4, 1913. Parks is most acclaimed for her refusal to give up her seat on the bus. On December 1, 1955, she was told by bus driver James F. Blake to give up her seat to make room for a white passenger who would have otherwise had to stand. She refused. For refusal, Rosa Parks was then arrested.
Parks was not the first one to resist segregation. Other African Americans such as Baynard Rustin, Irene Morgan and Sarah Louise Keys were also arrested for not giving up their seats so a white person could sit. This is when the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) decided to step in. They believed that Parks would be the best for seeing through a court after her arrest for "Civil Disobedience".
