About the BoycottThe Montgomery Bus Boycott began on December 5th, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama. African Americans began to refuse to ride city busses in a protest against segregated seating. On December 1st, four days before the official start of the Boycott, Rosa Parks famously refused to give up her seat for a white man, and was fined and arrested for her actions. The Boycott officially began on the day of Rosa Parks' court hearing.
